Radiators or Underfloor Heating?
Whether your central heating system powers radiators or underfloor pipe circuits (or a combination of both) is a matter of personal choice - so it is good to know the pros and cons of each before you make a decision.
Radiator systems can be thermostatically and timer controlled, but also individually adjusted at each radiator to provide the heat required in that particular room at any given time. There are a wide range of sizes and styles available - including radiated towel rails - and these systems are ideal for both new and used houses. The main advantage is their fast response time, and with no forced movement of air there is no noise or drafts. The main disadvantage is that they take up wall space.
Underfloor systems use the heat from the water in the cirulating pipes to slowly heat the floor slab, so low - but constant - energy is required. The main advantage of underfloor heating is that it cannot be seen. The main disadvantage is that it is quite slow to respond to the changing heat requirements that occur throughout our “four seasons in one day” climate here in New Zealand.
At Smart Energy we work with you to custom design central heating systems to suit the requirements of you and your home.
And in the South Canterbury region we provide FREE onsite no-obligation heating assessments.
